Assistant to the Director

Background:

Karen Ranalletta has been with the Learning Centre since November 2007. Karen is no stranger to UBC as she completed her Bachelor of Arts (English Lit, Political Science) in 2003. Upon graduating, Karen worked for In Vancouver! Web Services as an administrative assistant. In 2005, she obtained the Certificate in English Training to Adults (CELTA) from Cambridge University and spent the next few years teaching ESL to adults from over 20 different countries. In 2007, she worked with BC’s English Language Services for Adults (ELSA) Program, teaching English to newcomers to Canada. Karen has performed volunteer duties for a number of organizations in the community (Vancouver Aquarium, Vancouver International Writers and Readers Festival, Fraser Valley Learning Disabilities Association to name a few). At the Vancouver Aquarium she educated the public on the Aquarium’s various research initiatives and programs as well as helped care for baby harbour seals at the Marine Mammal Rescue Centre.

Current Role and Responsibilities:

Karen provides administrative support to the Director of the Learning Centre. As well, she manages facility bookings and related financial transactions and co-chairs the IKBLC Health and Safety Committee.
