”When Lullabies are Not Enough: Reducing the Impact of Poor Sleep on Infants, Toddlers, and their Parents

June 14, 2012 at the 10.30AM to 11.30AM at Terry Salman Branch Library, Vancouver Public Library

Presented by the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre and Woodward Library, the Health Information Series is an ongoing public lecture series that take place in the Lower Mainland community.

Please join us as Dr. Wendy Hall will bring a lively presentation and discussion to Terry Salman Branch library, the newest location of the Vancouver Public Library that had just opened this past January 2012.  This presentation will reveal recent scientific evidence about sleep and its effects on children’s and parents’ health. Presenters will examine both popular and scientific discourses regarding parents’ beliefs and cognitions about children’s sleep and effects of sleep problems.

Dr. Hall specializes in maternal and child health, infant and child growth and development, and research methods. I am also involved in developing interdisciplinary workshops for medical, nursing, and midwifery students. I am particularly interested in facilitating interdisciplinary work and developing student mentoring opportunities.

A collaboration between UBC Woodward Library and the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre, Health Information Lecture Series is a lecture series which engages the community in promoting better personal health management and a variety of health topics based on the expertise and research that happens at the University of British Columbia’s diverse medical and health sciences program. Through an innovative mix of cutting edge web technologies and important health topics, the Learning Centre offers not only a bridge for UBC faculty and the communities of BC, from the Lower Mainland to rural and remote areas, to create a dialogue around timely topics on the health care needs of British Columbians, but also an opportunity for the transfer and exchange of knowledge, experience and history with these local BC communities.
