About the Small Business Accelerator Program
The Small Business Accelerator (SBA) is a trustworthy point of access to diverse sources of quality business planning information, education and assistance for BC entrepreneurs on the Internet. This program develops information services to help BC entrepreneurs, start-ups and businesses find the relevant information and tools to enhance market research that is a crucial part of sound business planning. This website was launched in beta in November 2010. Features include a collection of over 100 detailed, industry-specific, Accelerator Guides, website sections devoted to the basics of starting, growing or running a BC business – and an active blog covering a wide variety of business topics.
We value collaboration and appreciate the expertise of community business support providers, government agencies and information professionals across BC. For example, many of our Accelerator Guides include content contributions from the Vancouver Public Library and Simon Fraser University Library. We’ve also had our partners share valuable insights on the SBA: Off the Ground blog including Enterprising Non-Profits (enp), Women’s Enterprise Centre, National Research Council – Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP) Program, and many more. Please contact us if you help would-be starts ups or small businesses, and have resources, events or other information to share!
Licensing The Gale Virtual Business Plans Handbook For BC Public Libraries
As part of the Small Business Accelerator, and based of feedback from select communities, we licensed a popular electronic resource called the Business Plans Handbook for BC libraries. You can learn more on the Small Business Accelerator Website here.
Remote Community Based Learning Fund- Partnership with the Centre for Community Engaged Learning
In October 2009 we partnered with UBC’s Community Learning Initiative (now the Centre for Community-Engaged Learning) and the UBC Sauder School of Business to initiate a community service-learning pilot project. This program has evolved in recent years and you can learn more here.
Entrepreneurship @UBC Online Flexible Learning Project
In the fall of 2013 we began collaborating with Entrepreneurship@UBC (e@UBC) to develop an online platform for self-directed learning and venture creation. This robust online environment will enable aspiring entrepreneurs and new ventures to access essential online courses and resources to help augment their growth and development. Our launch timeline is dependent on funding.
